Building begins on six new social rent homes in Winchcombe

Work has started on a £1.24m project to build six new homes on a brownfield site in Winchcombe, Gloucestershire.

Housing provider Bromford has demolished 48 underused garages off Back Lane to make way for the new homes, which will each be let at social rent, the most affordable type of housing available.

The homes will each have two bedrooms, designed for up to four people, and will be allocated to families on the local housing register.

Quedgeley-based Aqua Construction is building the homes using timber frames. This is the firm’s first partnership with Bromford.

Nathaniel Davies, Post Contract Manager at Bromford, said the development would take the name Abbey View. He said: “It’s fantastic to be able to transform a brownfield site like this into beautiful new homes which will reinvigorate the area. Each home will represent a new chapter and a fresh start for the families who move into them.

“We’re delighted to be working with Aqua on this project and I can’t wait to see the homes take shape.”

Jason Wasley, managing director at Aqua Construction added: “We are repurposing brownfield land to create much-needed affordable homes. We’re proud to be delivering our first project with Bromford, marking the start of what we hope will be a long and successful partnership. By transforming a former garage site, we’re helping to regenerate the area with high-quality timber-framed homes that will provide modern, sustainable housing for local families. It’s rewarding to see underused land given a new purpose and communities strengthened through thoughtful development.”

The homes have been designed to fit in with their surroundings, and each will have a private garden, a shed and somewhere secure to lock a bike. They will be energy efficient, with a minimum EPC rating of B, and their design features a narrow frontage with distinctive ‘mono’ pitched roofs.

There will be 19 parking spaces: two per home and seven for visitors.

Abbey View is just across the road from the local primary school and the Abbey Fi elds Commuity Centre.

It is five minutes into the town centre, and the bus stops on the 656 and W1 routes into Cheltenham are 150 metres away.

Social rent is set by a national formula tied to local earnings rather than the market, which puts it well below what a private landlord would charge.

The project is being paid for through receipts from the Voluntary Right to Buy scheme, which is money that comes back to Bromford when a home is sold and goes straight into building replacements.

The homes should be ready to move into by spring 2027.

Bromford is part of Bromford Flagship LiveWest (BFL), the UK’s largest provider of new affordable homes, with almost 300,000 customers across the southwest, central and east of England.

Firms pitch in to help Chill Out project in Newent

A dream team of big-hearted local businesses has been praised for its crucial help in Newent.

Firms clubbed together to make a significant contribution to the town’s Chill Out Youth and Community Café, which is based on Broad Street.

Trustees of the Newent Initiative recently welcomed representatives from Aqua Construction, building supplies firm MKM and HCR Law to a special afternoon tea – the special get-together marking an opportunity to say thanks for the difference they had made both to the charity and the young people who benefit from its services.

A spokesperson for the Newent Initiative said: “Earlier this year, Aqua Construction, with the support of Mark Lee Decorating Ltd and SBL Carpentry Ltd, generously provided the skilled workforce to carry out urgent repairs and repaint the front of the Chill Out building.

“MKM Newent donated all the building materials needed for this project and, together, their generosity transformed the appearance of the Centre, ensuring it continues to provide a welcoming and safe environment for local young people.”

HCR Law has also been an invaluable supporter of the Newent Initiative. The firm organised a successful silent auction, with all proceeds donated to the Chill Out, while staff also gave their time to help refurbish the interior of the centre and donated Easter eggs for the young people, together with carpets and outdoor furniture.

An afternoon tea was held as a small token of appreciation for the firms’ input, giving trustees the opportunity to personally thank all the organisations for their outstanding community spirit and continued support.

Newent Initiative added: “We are incredibly grateful for the generosity shown by Aqua Construction and its team, Mark Lee Decorating Ltd, SBL Carpentry Ltd, MKM and HCR Law. Their support has made a real and lasting difference to the Chill Out Youth and Community Café and, most importantly, to the young people who use our services.

“Partnerships like these demonstrate the strength of our local community and what can be achieved when businesses work together to support local charities.”

The Newent Initiative relies on grants alongside the generosity of local businesses, volunteers and supporters to continue providing a safe, welcoming place where, in particular, young people can meet, take part in activities and access support when they need it.

Trustees are now focused on the next phase of improving facilities for Newent’s young people by developing a new skate park and pump track. Around £92,000 in Section 106 developer contributions has already been earmarked for the project and is held by the Forest of Dean District Council.

Aqua Construction Secures New Bromford Housing Group Development in Winchcombe

Aqua Construction has secured its first contract with Bromford Housing Group to deliver six much-needed affordable homes on a former garage site, in Back Lane, Winchcombe.

The £1.24m development, called Abbey View, will transform an underused brownfield site into a high-quality residential scheme, providing six two-bedroom homes arranged in two terraces of three properties with mono pitch, standing seam roofs.

Constructed using modern timber frame technology, the homes will feature cladding and render facades built to high standards of quality, sustainability and energy efficiency, and making effective use of previously developed land.

The project further strengthens Aqua Construction’s long-standing reputation for delivering high-quality housing developments for the affordable housing sector. Working in partnership with Bromford Housing Group, the team will deliver the scheme safely, efficiently and to programme.

The regeneration of the former garage site following demolition, demonstrates how redundant urban land can be successfully repurposed to address local housing needs, helping to create vibrant communities while increasing the supply of affordable homes.

Construction is to commence in July, with Aqua Construction continuing its commitment to delivering quality housing developments across the region and is scheduled for completion in Spring 2027.

Aqua Construction secures successful £6.4m land-led partnership to build new homes in Herefordshire

Aqua Construction has successfully secured a £6.4m programme to deliver a 24‑home residential development in St Weonards, Herefordshire. The scheme with Signature Homes in partnership with the Citizen Housing Group, comprises 16 open‑market homes and eight affordable properties constructed using traditional methods. In this land-led development Aqua Construction took the lead in identifying, securing, and developing the land with all stakeholders.

Designed by Quattro Design Architects and overseen by the Duchy of Cornwall, the development is sensitive to the rural setting while addressing local housing demand. Aqua Construction is working with the Employer’s Agent, Bespoke Construction Consultants, to ensure high design quality, sustainability, cost certainty and effective risk management during the build process.

The homes will incorporate low‑carbon design principles, biodiversity enhancements and imaginative public space design, with layouts that support walkability, green infrastructure and long‑term environmental resilience. The project reflects a collaborative approach to delivering high‑quality, sustainable housing for the St Weonards community.

The project started in March 2026 and is due for completion in Spring 2027.

Rebuilding Hemmingway: Sustainable Homes for Evesham

Aqua Construction has been awarded a competitive tender for the construction of four new sustainable homes, comprising two pairs of semi‑detached houses, at Hemmingway in Evesham.

The project, delivered for Rooftop Housing, will replace existing properties that were severely damaged in a gas explosion. It has now undergone demolition ready for redevelopment.

The new homes will be sustainably built using timber‑frame construction and will incorporate photovoltaic (PV) panels and air source heat pumps, supporting improved energy efficiency and reduced carbon emissions.

Works commenced on site in April 2026, with completion targeted for the end of the year.

New affordable homes in Forest of Dean will help local community

A new development of affordable housing in the Forest of Dean has been completed. The Chapel Gate site in Newent has been delivered by housing association Platform Housing Group who will manage the 40 apartments and homes, all offering accommodation at affordable rent.

It is the first time Platform has built in the Forest of Dean, partnering with developer Aqua Construction who built the homes using modern methods and a combination of traditional brick and stone, complimenting the surrounding environment.

Upon finishing this development, Platform are soon to deliver more affordable housing elsewhere in the area in Coleford. Regional head of delivery for Platform Pawel Wiktor said: “The development looks great and we thank the parters at Aqua, Homes England and the local authority for their hard work in achieving completion of the homes. Bringing affordable housing to communities like the one here in Newent offer valuable ways of keeping families together and strengthening the area as a whole. Our teams and colleagues are looking forward to working with the community to support them now they have the security that comes with a place to call home. We’re proud to have delivered Chapel Gate for the Forest of Dean and hope to continue providing more homes for more people in the coming years.”

Construction began in 2022 but came to a halt when the previous building firm entered into financial difficulty, meaning a new partner, Aqua Construction, were appointed.

Craig King, construction manager at Aqua Construction, said: “We successfully completed an unfinished development after taking over from a previous contractor. Our team worked diligently to stabilise progress on the stalled site and restore confidence in the project and wider community.

We are proud to apply our expertise to ensure every home is delivered to the standard residents deserve. By working closely with the Platform team, we helped re‑establish trust in local housing delivery and ensured this site became a well‑integrated and responsibly managed part of the town.”

As a registered provider of social housing, Platform own over 50,000 homes across the Midlands and offer affordable housing and support to more than 120,000 customers.

Site nearing completion at Pinvin, Worcs

Scheduled for completion in March 2026, Aqua Construction is near to finishing building works at Pinvin in Worcestershire. Aqua Construction was appointed by Rooftop Housing Group to pick up and complete a site comprising 13 affordable houses and flats, all at various stages of construction.

The previous developer abandoned the site leaving a number of partially completed properties, including completion of the external brick envelopes, windows / doors, roof structure, coverings and PV solar panels.

The internal programme of works includes plumbing and electrical installations, dry lining / plastering, fitting of kitchens and bathrooms and decoration.

External works include the completion of the children’s play area, soft landscaping, stormwater attenuation pond, driveways and estate road.

Rooftop & Aqua deliver eight new sustainable homes in Tewkesbury

Former post-war housing in Beckford, Tewkesbury has been transformed into eight much-needed new homes, providing high-quality, energy-efficient housing for local people.

Rooftop Housing Group has completed the redevelopment of 1-4 Sweden Lane with the support of grant funding from Homes England. It previously housed four prefabricated bungalows imported from Sweden after the Second World War. These homes were part of a national effort to tackle Britain’s post-war housing shortage.

The site has now been redeveloped to provide eight new affordable homes – four for Social Rent and four for Shared Ownership – comprising of six two-bedroom houses and two two-bedroom bungalows designed to meet local housing need.

Built by Aqua Construction, the homes feature air source heat pumps for heating and hot water, and solar photovoltaic (PV) panels to reduce energy use and carbon emissions. Seven of the homes achieved the highest EPC energy Rating of A, with the remaining home achieving a high B. The new homes also take inspiration from the site’s original heritage with a timber-frame design, delivering modern, efficient and comfortable homes for local people.

Local residents welcome the redevelopment as a positive step toward meeting local housing demand and supporting the next generation of Beckford residents.

Mark Ramdehal, head of development at Rooftop Housing Group, said: “This project is a great example of how we can honour the past while meeting today’s housing needs. The new homes at Sweden Lane are high-quality, energy-efficient and designed for the future, providing local people with sustainable homes and enhancing the community.”
