Bishops Drive was a site consisting of solely 92 garages, many in a poor state and deemed beyond financial repair. The layout of this site intends to maximise the full land, adding new landscaping to improve the aesthetic appeal of the site and complement the current architectural massing and detailing in the area. It has been agreed the development will contribute to an improved visual and social aspect to that of garages.
The new site will consist of the following;
- 7 houses
- 4 apartments
The site is located in a rural area in Cheltenham and lies three miles to the north of Cheltenham and seven miles southeast of Tewkesbury.
Bishops Drive development, on behalf of Rooftop Housing Association has been shaped through meetings with the local community who feel the designs should have a contemporary feel. In order to blend in with the area, the proposed buildings feature two colours of bricks from Ibstock and incorporates modern schemes such as grey frame windows. The use of metal roofs was to incorporate codes of contemporary architecture and a reflection of the industrial history of the Smith Village industry.
