Aqua Construction’s superb relationship with Gloucester City Homes will continue with the development of three blocks of flats on Sherborne Street in Gloucester. Nine one-bed flats and 22 two-bed flats are to be constructed, all for affordable rent.
Having won a competitive tender for the contract, Aqua will be building the scheme to Quattro Architects’ ingenious design. The three blocks will be arranged around a central courtyard and will share external circulation space, features that will develop a community focus for residents as well as enhance privacy. Each flat will have its own external front door and parking will be in a secure setting within the development.
These flats will be a welcome replacement for Sherborne House, which will be demolished before the construction of the new blocks. Sherborne House was built as part of Gloucester’s first sheltered housing scheme and the materials used in the new development will be a vast improvement on those that were used when the original scheme was developed in 1971, providing energy-efficient and secure homes for 31 families.
The Sherborne Street development will include the 110th unit built by Aqua Construction for Gloucester City Homes across 11 sites over the last three years.
Work on the development commenced in January 2019 and was completed on time in February 2021.
Robert Panou, GCH, Head of Development, commented, “This is a tricky scheme in a built-up location with some strict deadlines. Alongside their competitive tender, Aqua have provided the technical knowledge and support to get over all the hurdles in a timely fashion. As a small team, we would not have made the progress we have without the added value Aqua bring.”
